The Villas of Guerin Woods

The living/gathering area in The Villas features a fireplace.

In the cool of morning, seated in the garden/patio, they listen intently while a Compatissant (caregiver) reads to them. Later, they engage in lively muscle strengthening exercises, trim old blooms from the petunias, and set the table for lunch. Sometimes they bake a cake or prepare their favorite recipe for dinner. In the afternoon, they gather in the living area to visit as a group with area pastors, watch television and play dominoes and card games. When they yearn for solitude, they retreat to their private bedrooms where they read, nap or simply gaze out the window at the comings and goings at Guerin Woods. Such is life for Elders living at The Villas of Guerin Woods, and they say it is good.

The Villas provide assisted living and skilled nursing care for frail Elders age 62 and older in a way that enables them to develop new interests and increase their capabilities. The Villas are modeled from the “small house” concept to provide an alternative to institutional nursing care. (See our online video about The Villas.)

Each 7,100-square-foot Villa has 10 private bedrooms with private bathrooms, a common living/gathering space with fireplace; an open kitchen and dining area; an enclosed patio with sensory garden; a spa equipped with therapeutic mat and collapsible parallel bars; a den, and an office that replaces the traditional nurses’ station.

The living, dining and kitchen areas in The Villas are open and accessible to all Elders.

The Villas are state licensed and are certified for Medicare, Medicaid and Medicaid Waiver Vouchers. Private pay and long-term care insurance are accepted.

The first two Villas opened in May 2008 and a third opened in March 2010. A fourth Villa is scheduled to open in November 2010.
